Château Rousselle Côtes de Bourg 2018

MYR 290.00

Type: Full-Bodied Red (Estate / HVE Certified Organic Practice)

Region: Côtes de Bourg, Right Bank Bordeaux, France

Grapes: 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Malbec, 2% Cabernet Franc

Alcohol ABV: 14.5%

Tasting Profile and Key Notes

  • Aroma: Dark, brooding bouquet of ripe blackberry, Damson plum, cederwood, dried wild thyme, and a distinct gravelly, damp-earth minerality.

  • Palate: Fleshy and high-volume on the entry, exploding with layers of dark cocoa and licorice; structured by dense, chalky, fine-grained wood tannins and a surprisingly vibrant, crunchy core of dark fruit.

Winemaking

The grapes are sourced from old vines averaging 40 years of age and undergo severe green harvesting to intensely concentrate flavors before manual sorting. Fermentation proceeds under strict temperature control with native yeasts, incorporating traditional, regular pump-overs and punch-downs to carefully manage structural extraction. The wine completes malolactic conversion and is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels (50% new wood introduced each vintage) to beautifully integrate the muscular tannins.

Farming

The estate vineyard is situated along clay-limestone slopes flanking the Right Bank of the Gironde Estuary, capturing intense afternoon sun while benefitting from maritime cooling. The vineyards are farmed using certified High Environmental Value (HVE) organic practices, entirely rejecting harsh chemical treatments to protect local biodiversity. This particular 2018 vintage thrived through a hot, dry summer, forcing the deep-rooted vines into the limestone base to achieve flawless phenolic maturity while maintaining essential freshness.
