Sous Le Végétal Auguste 2018

MYR 298.00

Type: Light Red Wine (Natural / Zero-Sulfur)

Region: Samos, Greece

Grapes: 100% Avgoustiatis

Alcohol ABV: 11.5%

Tasting Profile and Key Notes

Aroma:
Elegant and perfumed with aromas of wild cherry, raspberry, red currant, and cranberry, layered with clove, star anise, dried herbs, wood ash, and subtle earthy notes. A distinct saline minerality and crushed stone character reflect the schist and quartz soils of Samos, giving the wine remarkable freshness and complexity.

Palate:
Light-bodied yet beautifully structured, with vibrant red fruits, lively acidity, and silky, fine-grained tannins. Notes of sour cherry, raspberry, spice, and crushed minerals unfold into a long, savoury finish marked by refreshing salinity and exceptional purity. Delicate enough to enjoy slightly chilled, yet complex enough to evolve beautifully in the glass.

Winemaking

Hand-harvested Avgoustiatis grapes undergo around 40 days of whole-cluster infusion-style maceration in stainless steel, allowing for gentle extraction of colour, aroma, and tannin. Fermentation occurs naturally with indigenous yeasts before the wine is aged equally in 500L Stockinger oak casks and egg-shaped concrete vats. Bottled unfined, unfiltered, and with no added sulphur, the wine is transferred by gravity with minimal intervention to preserve its purity and terroir expression.

Farming

The grapes are grown organically in the village of Pagondas on the slopes of Mount Karvounis, where rare Avgoustiatis vines are interplanted among old Muscat vineyards. The vineyards sit on a mosaic of schist and quartz soils under the influence of the Aegean Sea, combining Mediterranean warmth with cooling maritime breezes to produce wines of remarkable freshness, mineral tension, and elegance.
