Aroma:
A classic Médoc Bordeaux showing aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, and ripe plum, layered with cedar, tobacco leaf, graphite, and subtle spice. The Cabernet Sauvignon brings cassis, structure, and a mineral character, while Merlot adds roundness and softer dark fruit. With bottle age from the excellent 2015 Bordeaux vintage, the wine develops more savoury notes of leather, earth, and dried herbs.
Palate:
Medium to full-bodied with a refined structure and balanced tannins. The palate offers flavours of black cherry, cassis, blackberry, and plum, supported by fresh acidity and firm but polished tannins. Notes of cedar, liquorice, dark chocolate, and graphite appear on the finish, giving the wine the classic Médoc combination of power, freshness, and elegance.
The grapes are carefully harvested from the estate’s vineyards and fermented with controlled extraction to preserve fruit purity while building structure. The wine is traditionally aged in French oak barrels, allowing the Cabernet Sauvignon-driven blend to integrate tannins and develop Bordeaux’s signature cedar, spice, and savoury complexity.
Château Pontet Barrail is located in Bégadan, Médoc, with around 17 hectares of vineyards planted on clay-limestone and sandy gravel soils. The vines have an average age of around 38 years, and the gravelly terroir helps Cabernet Sauvignon ripen with elegance while maintaining freshness and structure. The estate has achieved Cru Bourgeoisrecognition, reflecting its quality within the Médoc appellation.
