Ciù Ciù “Saggio” 2022
Type: Red Wine (Organic / Traditional Italian Red)
Region: Marche IGT, Marche, Italy
Grapes: 100% Sangiovese
Alcohol ABV: 14.5%
Tasting Profile and Key Notes
Aroma:
An expressive Sangiovese with aromas of ripe red cherry, blackberry, raspberry, and violet. Layers of Mediterranean herbs, mint, coffee, and subtle spice develop with air, adding complexity to the generous fruit profile. The nose shows the classic Sangiovese combination of bright red fruit, floral lift, and savoury depth.
Palate:
Medium to full-bodied with a rich yet balanced structure. Flavours of cherry, blackberry, plum, and dark berries are supported by smooth tannins, refreshing acidity, and a mineral backbone. Notes of coffee, herbs, and spice appear on the long finish, giving the wine more depth while maintaining the elegance typical of Sangiovese.
Winemaking
The organically farmed Sangiovese grapes are harvested from the hills of Marche and undergo traditional red fermentation with maceration on the skins to extract colour, aroma, and structure. After fermentation, the wine is aged to soften tannins and integrate its fruit character before bottling. The focus is on preserving the purity of Sangiovese while creating a structured yet approachable expression.
Farming
The vineyards are located in the Offida and Ascoli Piceno hills of Marche, where vines benefit from a unique position between the Adriatic Sea and the Apennine Mountains. Ciù Ciù farms organically, with vineyards planted on clay-rich hillside soils that help provide concentration, freshness, and balanced acidity.
