Type: Rosé Wine (Natural / Biodynamic / Minimal Intervention)
Region: Rheinhessen, Germany
Grapes: Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder), Blaufränkisch, Merlot
Alcohol ABV: Approximately 11%
Aroma:
A fresh and elegant natural rosé showing aromas of wild strawberry, raspberry, red cherry, and cranberry. Floral notes of rose petals and violet combine with subtle herbal tones, while a gentle earthy character adds complexity. The Pinot Noir brings finesse and floral lift, Blaufränkisch contributes spice and structure, and Merlot adds roundness and juicy fruit.
Palate:
Light-bodied, dry, and refreshing with bright acidity and a silky texture. The palate delivers flavours of red berries, sour cherry, pomegranate, and red apple, balanced by delicate mineral freshness and a subtle savoury finish. It has enough structure from the red varieties to pair with food, while maintaining the freshness and drinkability expected from a natural rosé.
The grapes are harvested from biodynamically farmed vineyards and undergo direct pressing after a short maceration period to achieve the delicate rosé colour and preserve freshness. Fermentation occurs spontaneously with indigenous yeasts, followed by ageing on the gross lees in stainless steel tanks, allowing the wine to develop texture while maintaining a pure fruit expression.
Bianka & Daniel Schmitt farm in Rheinhessen, particularly around the Wonnegau area, using biodynamic practices with a strong focus on biodiversity and healthy soils. The vineyards for Freiheit Rosé are planted on limestone and fine sediment soils, which help retain freshness and provide the wine’s mineral character.
