Domaine de l’Ecu Classic 2022
Type: White (Organic / Biodynamic / Low-Intervention)
Region: Muscadet Sèvre-et-Maine, Loire Valley, France
Grapes: 100% Melon de Bourgogne
Alcohol ABV: 12%
Tasting Profile and Key Notes:
Crisp and mineral-driven, with aromas of lime, grapefruit, green apple, pear and white flowers, complemented by subtle saline and smoky notes. Light to medium-bodied with a smooth texture, bright acidity and a refreshing finish marked by sea breeze minerality and citrus freshness.
Winemaking:
The grapes are hand-harvested and gently whole-bunch pressed before spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts. The wine is aged on its fine lees in underground vats, allowing it to develop a richer texture while preserving its purity and freshness. It is made with minimal intervention, without clarification, reflecting Domaine de l’Ecu’s natural winemaking philosophy.
Farming:
The grapes come from organically and biodynamically farmed vineyards in Muscadet Sèvre-et-Maine, near Nantes in the Loire Valley. Domaine de l’Ecu has been a pioneer of organic viticulture since the 1970s and has practiced biodynamic farming since the 1990s, focusing on biodiversity and healthy soils. The Atlantic-influenced climate and granite-rich terroir contribute to the wine’s distinctive freshness, minerality and saline character.
