Tasting Profile and Key Notes

Aroma:
A vibrant and expressive Southern Rhône red with intense aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant, and ripe black cherry. Layers of black pepper, violet, olive, smoked herbs, and subtle balsamic notes add complexity. The Syrah brings deep dark fruit and spice, while Grenache contributes a softer, rounder fruit profile and aromatic lift.

Palate:
Full-flavoured yet energetic, showing juicy blackberry, cassis, plum, and dark cherry supported by fine tannins and refreshing acidity. The palate carries classic Syrah characteristics of pepper, olive, and savoury herbs, balanced by Grenache’s generosity and warmth. The finish is long, mineral, and expressive, with a beautiful combination of freshness, spice, and earthy complexity.

Winemaking

The grapes are harvested from organically and biodynamically farmed vineyards and undergo spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts. The wine is macerated for around 12–15 days with gentle extraction before ageing in concrete tanks and used French oak vessels. Minimal intervention is applied, with no corrections, and only a small addition of sulphur after malolactic fermentation before bottling.

Farming

The vineyards are located in the Southern Rhône, around Montbrison-sur-Lez, with vines planted on a mix of sandstone, clay, and limestone soils. Domaine Gramenon follows biodynamic farming principles, focusing on biodiversity, healthy soils, and natural vineyard balance to allow Syrah and Grenache to express their pure Rhône character.
