Eraso Azala 2020

MYR 198.00

Type: Orange Wine (Skin-Contact White / Natural / Minimal Intervention)

Region: Rioja Alavesa (DOCa Rioja), Spain

Grapes: Viura, Malvasía Riojana, Torrontés, Calagraño

Alcohol ABV: 13.5%

Tasting Profile and Key Notes

Aroma:
A deeply aromatic orange wine with layers of ripe pear, baked apple, quince, dried apricot, and preserved citrus peel. As the wine opens, notes of roasted hazelnut, white nougat, chamomile, honey, mocha, and gentle oak spice emerge, creating remarkable complexity.

Palate:
Full-bodied and richly textured with a firm yet polished tannic grip from extended skin contact. Flavours of baked orchard fruit, dried citrus, pineapple, toasted nuts, tea leaves, and savoury spice are supported by lively acidity and a mineral backbone. Despite its concentration, the wine remains balanced and finishes long with earthy, nutty, and saline notes.

Winemaking

The wine is made from traditional white varieties grown in Rioja Alavesa. The grapes undergo extended skin maceration, followed by spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts. The wine is matured in oak, allowing oxidative complexity and texture to develop while preserving freshness. It is produced with a low-intervention philosophy, expressing both the vineyard and traditional Rioja white winemaking.

Farming

Josean Eraso farms small vineyard parcels in Moreda de Álava, in the heart of Rioja Alavesa. The vineyards are planted on limestone-clay soils at relatively high altitude, benefiting from the influence of the Sierra Cantabria mountains. Careful, sustainable vineyard practices and low yields help produce grapes with excellent concentration, freshness, and mineral character.
