La Gazzetta Rosso Piero 2021

MYR 260.00

Type: Red Wine (Natural / Organic / Minimal Intervention)

Region: Lazio, Italy

Grapes: 100% Merlot

Alcohol ABV: 13%

Tasting Profile and Key Notes

Aroma:
A distinctive natural expression of Merlot from central Italy, showing aromas of blackberry, black cherry, plum, and ripe red berries. Layers of savoury spice, dried herbs, earth, and subtle balsamic notes add complexity. Unlike many international-style Merlots, Rosso Piero has a rustic Mediterranean character with a more wild and herbal personality.

Palate:
Medium-bodied with juicy fruit, smooth tannins, and a savoury finish. The palate delivers flavours of dark cherry, blackberry, plum, and pomegranate, balanced by earthy spice, herbs, and mineral freshness. The texture is supple and elegant, with enough structure to pair well with food while maintaining the natural wine’s drinkability.

Winemaking

The grapes are harvested from organically farmed vineyards and fermented spontaneously with indigenous yeasts. The wine undergoes maceration on the skins to extract colour, structure, and complexity, followed by ageing in old oak barrels. It is bottled unfined and unfiltered, with no added sulphites, preserving the purity and character of the Merlot.

Farming

La Gazzetta works with organically farmed vineyards in Lazio, focusing on traditional farming methods, biodiversity, and minimal intervention. The vineyards benefit from the region’s Mediterranean climate and diverse soils, allowing Merlot to develop freshness, savoury complexity, and a strong sense of place rather than a heavily extracted style.
