Lawson's Dry Hills Reserve Sauvignon Blanc 2024
Type: White Wine (Reserve / Dry)
Region: Marlborough, New Zealand
Grapes: 100% Sauvignon Blanc
Alcohol ABV: 13%
Tasting Profile and Key Notes
Aroma:
An intensely aromatic nose of passionfruit, melon, grapefruit, lime zest, and white flowers, underpinned by delicate herbaceous notes and a subtle flinty minerality. Gentle wild fermentation adds hints of lees, white peach, and light spice, giving greater depth than a classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.
Palate:
Dry, vibrant, and beautifully concentrated, with layers of citrus, passionfruit, gooseberry, and ripe tropical fruit. Bright acidity is balanced by a creamy texture and subtle chalky minerality, while the small barrel-fermented component adds weight and complexity without overshadowing the wine's freshness. The finish is long, crisp, and elegantly persistent.
Winemaking
The fruit is sourced from three premium Marlborough vineyards, with each parcel harvested separately at optimum ripeness to maximise aromatic intensity while retaining vibrant acidity. Most of the juice is fermented in stainless steel using selected yeasts, while approximately 10% is fermented with wild yeasts in old French oak barriques to build texture and complexity. The final blend is selected from the winery's finest parcels and bottled to preserve its freshness and precision.
Farming
The grapes are sourced from the Awatere Valley, Woodward Vineyard, and Waihopai Valley in Marlborough. The 2024 growing season featured a cool flowering period that naturally reduced yields, followed by a long, dry, sunny summer that produced exceptionally concentrated fruit. Low crop levels and careful vineyard management resulted in grapes with remarkable flavour intensity, freshness, and balance.
