Type: Red Wine (Natural / Biodynamic / Minimal Intervention)
Region: Gambellara, Veneto, Italy
Grapes: Red grape blend of indigenous and international varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Raboso, or other specific varieties
Alcohol ABV: 12.5%
Tasting Profile and Key Notes
Aroma:
A vibrant and rustic nose with aromas of ripe red cherry, blackberry, raspberry, and plum, layered with balsamic herbs, dried flowers, black pepper, and subtle earthy notes. The wine shows a wild Mediterranean character with hints of liquorice, forest floor, and spice, reflecting its natural fermentation and diverse grape composition.
Palate:
Medium-bodied, juicy, and energetic with flavours of dark cherry, blackberry, red plum, and sour berry fruits. Bright acidity keeps the wine fresh, while soft tannins provide gentle structure. Savoury notes of dried herbs, pepper, and mineral undertones lead into a clean, rustic finish with excellent drinkability.
Winemaking
The grapes come from biodynamically farmed vineyards and are fermented spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in concrete tanks. The wine is aged for at least six months in stainless steel tanks before being bottled unfiltered with only a small addition of sulphur. Marcobarba focuses on minimal intervention, allowing the vineyard and grape varieties to express themselves naturally.
Farming
The vineyards are located in Gambellara, Veneto, an area known for volcanic basalt soils and a strong connection to traditional local varieties. Marcobarba practices exclusively biodynamic viticulture, reducing vineyard intervention and focusing on soil vitality, biodiversity, and harmony with the natural ecosystem.
