Partida Creus BB Bobal 2020
Type: Red Wine (Natural / Organic / Minimal Intervention)
Region: Catalunya (Penedès), Spain
Grapes: 100% Bobal
Alcohol ABV: Approximately 12%–12.5%
Tasting Profile and Key Notes
Aroma:
A vibrant and expressive nose with aromas of wild strawberry, red cherry, raspberry, and pomegranate, layered with Mediterranean herbs, dried flowers, liquorice, and subtle earthy notes. The Bobal grape brings a distinctive combination of juicy red fruit, floral lift, and savoury complexity, with hints of spice, dried leaves, and mineral freshness adding depth.
Palate:
Light to medium-bodied, energetic, and highly refreshing with crunchy red fruits, bright acidity, and fine tannins. Flavours of sour cherry, cranberry, plum skin, and pomegranate are complemented by herbal notes, gentle spice, and a mineral backbone. The finish is fresh, slightly rustic, and savoury, showing excellent balance between natural vibrancy and Mediterranean character.
Winemaking
The Bobal grapes are hand-harvested from old vines and fermented spontaneously with indigenous yeasts. The wine undergoes a short maceration with the skins for gentle extraction before ageing in stainless steel tanks for approximately 8–12 months, preserving the purity and freshness of the variety. Bottled unfined, unfiltered, and without added sulphur, BB reflects Partida Creus’ natural winemaking philosophy and minimal intervention approach.
Farming
The grapes come from old Bobal vines grown in Catalunya, sourced from traditional vineyards with clay-limestone influences and Mediterranean climate conditions. Partida Creus works organically, focusing on biodiversity, low yields, and the preservation of indigenous grape varieties, allowing forgotten local grapes such as Bobal to express their unique personality and terroir.
