Type: White Wine (Natural / Minimal Intervention / High-Altitude Chardonnay)
Region: Shangri-La, Yunnan, China
Grapes: 100% Chardonnay
Alcohol ABV: 14%
Tasting Profile and Key Notes
Aroma:
A refined high-altitude Chardonnay showing aromas of lemon zest, grapefruit, green apple, and white peach. Layers of alpine herbs, white flowers, melon, and subtle mineral notes create a fresh and elegant profile. The cool mountain climate brings a lifted citrus character, while gentle fermentation complexity adds hints of brioche, almond, and subtle creaminess.
Palate:
Fresh, precise, and medium-bodied with bright acidity and a clean mineral backbone. The palate reveals flavours of citrus, green apple, pear, melon, and stone fruits, balanced by a delicate creamy texture from lees ageing. The finish is long and refreshing, with saline minerality, citrus peel, and a subtle nutty complexity that reflects its high-altitude origin.
Winemaking
The Chardonnay grapes are harvested from Domaine de la Gyalthang (建塘酒庄) vineyards in Shangri-La and fermented with minimal intervention. Fermentation is carried out naturally with indigenous yeasts, followed by ageing to develop texture and complexity while preserving the purity and freshness of the fruit. The wine reflects Xiao Pu’s philosophy of expressing site and variety through low-intervention winemaking rather than heavy oak influence.
Farming
The vineyards are located in Shangri-La, Yunnan, at high elevation, where intense sunlight, cool temperatures, and large day-night temperature swings help Chardonnay retain vibrant acidity and aromatic freshness. The mountainous terroir provides a unique expression of Chardonnay, combining alpine freshness, mineral character, and concentrated fruit intensity.
